Body Mapping as Method:
A Creative Workshop with Artist Elizabeth Alster
The Invisible Workers team invites you to join a creative workshop on Body Mapping as Method.
Body mapping is a research method that involves participants creating a visual representation of their body to explore their experiences and the meanings they attribute to their life circumstances. It's a participatory, arts-based method that is often used to complement other qualitative research techniques like interviews and focus groups.
The session will be delivered by Elizabeth Alster. Elizabeth Alster is a practicing artist, with degrees in Fine Art from Central St Martins and Chelsea College of Art. In the workshop, Elizabeth will demonstrate how to use drawing-based techniques to explore body mapping, by deploying breathing exercises, memories, colour, symbolism and words to create an artwork individual to each person. The session will be interactive and hands on, with participants creating their own body maps to learn through doing and subsequent reflection.
All materials are provided, and no prior experience with creative or visual methods is necessary to join.
The session will run on Wednesday 4th December from 1pm until 4pm in the Monica Partridge Building on University Park campus.
Please note, we have limited spaces available, so please register your interest by Friday 29th November.
